Had logic board replaced in iBook 700/Combo/12.1" last month. Booted into 9.2.2 recently - display image is small. It does not occupy the entire screen leaving just blank black margins around.

Plus: only one option for color - 256. No thousands or millions. Both problems affect only 9.2.2, not 10.3.1 on another partition. Also, launching Classic is unaffected.

So far I found one KB article about incompatibility of hardware-specific OS and older hardware. They did not reformat hard drive when they replaced logic board, so OS version is definitely the same.

Which suggests that Apple uses different logic boards for repairs than the ones iBooks came with.

Anyway, if anybody has any idea how to fix this problem, please let me know. Before I try reinstalling OS 9.

Thanks.

you need to install OS9...but before you do try to zap the pram and maybe rebuild the desktop...if those don't work resinstall OS9 with the ibook restore cd's I had too before as well...good luck! Mark

Thanks. Unfortunately, zapping PRAM, rebuilding the desktop or reinstalling (clean install) 9.2.2 solved the problem. I'll probably call AppleCare. Besides full reformat and reinstall there's not much I can think of.

It seems that the problem is caused by possibly different video card Apple used in a new 700MHz logic board in my 1.5 year old iBook. See my other post.

I'll be happy if this new logic board solves the eternal death curve of the iBook. But I also want to have an occasional access to OS 9 boot.

Other problem I found. iBook now refuses to sleep in 9.2.2 complaining about lack of some system software.
