All of a sudden my DVD drive got VERY loud and is having issues with ejecting the disc. it also occasionaly puts marks on the disc.

I replaced the drive with a NEW dvd drive, SAME PROBLEM!

Any ideas?

Ihave a Ti Book 400 with the standard DVD drive running OSX

I don't have a TiBook but that activity sounds like it could be a firmware problem... Have you tried downloading all the firmware updates for your machine/drive?

I am a newbie Mac user, would the firmware be accessable via "software update"?
