My screen was perfect (except for a little ripple at the bottom which I understand why and accepts). But recently I notice the lower left started to be darker compare to the rest of the screen. The darker area covers about a 1/4 of the whole screen. It is very obvious especially if I use Excel, Word or Safari where the background is white.

I've downloaded Pixel Check from versiontracker to allow me to lit up the whole display to a single color and all exhibit the darker areas on the lower left. In addition, I used to be satisfy with 2 bars brightness at night time but now I have to turn to 4 bars brightness to get the same *feeling*, the backlight is obviously degrading on this 3 months old PB.

From all the posts of the 15", it seems to be problem with uneven illumination of the backlight. Should I send it in to Apple? Anyone experience the same thing on the 12"?

Yep. It comes and goes. It was good the past couple of days, but today it went back to being dim and uneven again. Like you, I need at least 4 bars to be able have the same brightness as one bar a month ago.

Nothing I can do about it at the moment because I need my laptop

Hey, mine's about 3 months old too. Hmm.

Thanks for you input, Rain.

The uneven illumination is very annoying now, when I move a window around the screen I can actually see it's color changed.

Just called Apple Support here in HK and they ask me to bring it in for technician to take a look. Will keep you guys posted with updates.

Just a follow up post to the topic.

I got it into a Apple Service Provider in Hong Kong and they replace the LCD panel in six days (parts shipped from Singapore).

They said it is not a common problem but if you have this problem, get Apple to replace the LCD panel for you.

I am quite satisfied now with the new screen.

Please keep us posted about your repair!

There are a lot of owners with 15" PBs having the same problem. Sadly, it seems to recur even after a screen replacement, at least on the 15" model.

I'd be interested in knowing if you experience something similar, and I think a lot of 15" owners would as well.
