I have a ti550 and would like to if it is woth it to upgrade my current ram of 512 (2 stick) to 1 gig (wich will be 2-512 stick). Keep in mind I will have to take out the 2-256 in order put in 1 gig.

I was wonder if upgrading the mem i would be able to see large increase in proformance for the cost of the new ram. I use my mac for internet, office, and lite photoshop.

You will see an increase for sure...if you don't have the money for a newer system a RAM upgrade is worth every penny. Especially if your running OS X.

will i see a different in things such as opening apps and day to day use. I really want to hang on to this machine for now until they release g5 or higher speed g4. I g4 550 is serving it's purpose for my needs pretty well. I just want to things to be a little bit more snappy right know. I just don't want to spend $300 dollars and not seeing a significant different in my usage.

On my Pismo (good old days) G3 500 i went from 512 to 1Gig and saw a tremendous difference. It can be night and day but every machine is different. From 512 to 1 gb is a big difference...I would go for it. Though other G4 owners who did this will know better than me.

I've been vey happy with 768.... if course my TI came with 2 256mb chips, so I just replaced the one. I was planning on buying the other one, but I haven't found the need yet. (I'm currently running Acrobat, Word, Entourage, iTunes, Safari, iChat, and Virtual PC)
