My dad ordered a 512 chip of RAM from 1800memory.com Put it in used the computer for a little bit and then closed it up. He then went back later and when he opened it up it wouldn't "wake up". He had to force it to turn off(hold the power button) to get the computer to come back. He sent then one back and got a new one just the other day which ended up with the same problem. Could it be just that its shitty quality memory? Anybody else have this sort of problem?

The 12 in PB Al 1GHz is notoriously finicky about RAM. Multiple people have reported issues with 3rd party RAM. I myself went through incompatible units from TransIntly and OWC. TransIntl gratiously accepted return. OWC assessed a restock fee for the RAM their own website recommended.
Samsung memory is what Apple supplies and THAT does work.
Memory from Crucial and MemoryX have both been reported as compatible.

Both original and replacement sticks of OWC RAM purchased for a G4PB12 (revB) machine were incompatible with both a revA and revB machine.
And now OWC told us that since this is now beyond 30 days after receipt of the initial stick, they want to charge us a restocking fee. I'm sure this will be resolved -- we've been otherwise loyal and happy OWC customers -- but still ridiculous. Too bad customer service reps cannot put on their thinking cap sometimes.
Macintouch says folk have been happy with RAM from RAMJET, which is where we're headed.

I was well under 30 days (less than a week) and OWC still insisted on a restock fee for their incompatible RAM. They were once one of my favorite sellers to recommend, but after their rep refusing to acknowledge any responsibility despite their own web site recommending the RAM module, I no longer recommend them and actively work to dissuade people from using them. Bad customer service coupled with a lack of responsibility for their own recommendations engendered a lot of ill will.

Today, OWC's CEO reconsidered my situation and agreed to refund the restocking fee. After this good will gesture on their part, I feel once more able to recommend them as a supplier. They do often have good prices and it was sad not being able to recommend them. They are back on my recommendation and supplier list.
