WinXP has a cool utility that is called Virtual Desktop Manager as part of their PowerToys thing.

This emulates the Gnome/KDE virtual desktop thing in Linux. Very handy for those with small screens or like lots of screesn open.

I have seen some desktops posted around the internet that seem to have something similar to this.

Does anyone know of such a product under OSX?

I am aware of Expose. I am considering getting a 12" FireBook and would like to maximize my screen real estate if possible.

The only virtual desktop implementation I know that's available for Mac OS X is CodeTek's Virtual Desktop and sells for $30. You can download the limited trial from their website.

It has been recently released to work with Mac OS 10.3.x, though last I used it was under Mac OS 10.2.x.

i used it under both 10.2.x and 10.3.x currently. it does what you're looking for and more. the "limited" version is usually enough for most people but i went ahead and paid the $30 for the full version. i wouldn't say i gained anything i "needed" from the full version though.

there is also Desktop Manager that provides 4 virtual desktops and is free:

http://wsmanager.sourceforge.net/

I used it on 10.2, but have not found a need with Exposé in 10.3
