Ok, people seem to be getting tired of the threads asking when the PowerBook G5 will be released and should they buy now or wait, so let's have a poll to hopefully minimize these threads.

So when will the PB G5 be released:
2004
Q1 = Jan-Mar
Q2 = Apr-Jun
Q3 = Jul-Sep
Q4 = Oct-Dec

Or not until 2005?

Earliest, I say Q4-2004, most likely 2005.
15 inch MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 7200 RPM 100GB HDD.

Dual 2.5 GHz Power Mac G5, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, ATI Radeon X800XT.

I'll be the optimist and say they will be announced at whatever event Apple uses to replace MWNY.

IBM has said that the current editions of the 970 is way too hot to run in a portable. And most likely they'll have to create a new chip based on the 970 for it to laptop friendly (i.e. heat and power consumption).

So I am guessing 2005.

I think late 2004. Maybe November or December. They'll need to release it in the winter in order to keep it cool enough

I'm guessing Q4 ... leaves room for one more 6-month G4 speedbump, and gets the G5 PBs out before Christmas. Wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in Jan. 2005, though.

Do you think there will be anything like this? I was under the impression that Apple has positioned WWDC to fill this role, since they have kept its new calendar spot of late June that they introduced last year.

Well that would be July, so that would be early Q3, which I can live with.
