Hello folks,

I want to buy my first mac next week and i decided to go with the 17 inches powerbook. I want to set up this small network with my pc who actually uses an 10MB ADSL connection. Can you tell me where i should begin to build this small network with the airport extreme?

What are the steps etc etc?

Thanks again!

Best thing to do is simply to get a 802.11g wireless router, for about $100. There are several available from the likes of Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, SMC, and of course, Apple. You might do better in the Networking forum too.

P.S. Welcome to MacNN, and enjoy your new PowerBook.

I think I can be of help....

I have my Cable Modem coming into my Linksys Router.
Then my Winodows XP machine is hooked to the router.
I also have a Linksys Wireless Access Point hooked into the router. Which allows my Powerbook (using the built in Aiport Card to access the Internet...as well as the PC)

I set up File and Print sharing on the Windows machine, and turned on Windows Sharing on the Mac. And they can see each other just fine.

Your best bet would be to get a Wireless Router. (If you get an Airport Card on your Powerbook...so you can connect wirelessly) I'd recommend the Linksys Wireless G router. http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...5&prid=601 You can usually find them for ~$100 at places like Best Buy, CompUSA, or Circuit City.

If you don't go Wireless, you could get something like this Linksys Router http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...9&prid=433 They go for ~$70-80.

Hope this helps...but yes, might wanna also check in the Networking Forum.

Correct...if you get the Wireless Router...all you need for the Powerbook, is the Airport Card...which you can get built in. You will not need to get the Aiprort Base Station.

I have a D-Link 54g router/AP, and it works well. I have my cable modem plugged into it, a PC desktop plugged into one of the LAN ports, and my (new) 17" PB on Airport. Previous to the 17" Lapzilla, I had a 12" Yaobook which was used in the same configuration. No problem at all.

BTW, I just got my 17" today, and I'll tell anyone who's thinking of getting one of these monsters, GO FOR IT!! This thing rocks!!
