in general tasks, a 15" Ti 867 with 768 Ram outruns a 15" al 1.25 with 512 Ram? the Ti is faster to boot, run things, and almost faster in games, like UT2003. They both have the same speed HD 4200rpm. The Ti is at least 25 seconds faster than the Al, (I''m done the start up hack on both of them to speed them up). Any ideas?

I can only think that it's the RAM. I wouldn't have thought the difference between 512 and 768 would have made that much of a difference on the simpler things, though, so perhaps there is something more deep-seated which is wrong.

When you say that the Ti is at least 25 seconds faster than the Al, is this booting up or over some suite of tests you're running?

it's the ram. add 256 to the Al and you'll see. Either way, the spec on both of these machines is pretty much identical - yeah, you've got a boost on the Al, a different cache, and faster video. I'd say that they'll be about the same for most tasks - and, I suppose, it depends upon how you are measuring your tasks? Stop watch or benchmark tools?

Just a suggestion but you could benchmark them with Xbench (www.xbench.com) i found this gives a good idea of any bottlenecks you have in ure system...

could point out where exactly the albook is suffering ie whether it is actually the RAM.

Also i had a problem with my iMac being very VERY slow...i updated to 10.3.2 (from 10.3.1) and that solved all..could try that one too

hope this helps
