There seems to be a lot of 'logic' failures of the iBook, and from what I have seen, they seem to fail in the same system after they have been repaired. And this does not appear to be logical. Being a systems engineer, I would look for something else causing the failure. The logic board is only a symptom. I have also read, that there are many cableing 'shorts' in the hinge of the iBook case. My observation would be that the 'short' is causing a logic failure. Thant being the case, any logic board replacement should include a rewireing of the flatpanel before the new logic board is inserted.

Just a thought.

From what I am reading, the board fails and needs to be replaced because the graphic chip becomes undone from the board.

Bollocks... I had 2 logical board failures. The second died one day after the first repair. I am still with my first screen & cables, not failure since, 6 months?, summer 2003.

In fact they tried to repair the first time at my place, assuming it was the screen they only switched that, no luck. So they had to take the iBook with them to exchange the board. I insisted to switch the panels back, as my original one had no pixel failures, and I felt it was "my" panel. As a result they completely scratched my top cover/panel which they took with them separately. Bastards...
I'm-a trying to wonder, wonder, wonder why you, wonder, wonder why you act so.

I just took my wife’s iBook in to an Apple Store because the Display was flickering on and off and at times would not come on at all. It didn’t appear that the problem was in the Hinge moving the display open and closed didn’t seem to affect the picture quality. However, holding the base of the iBook in different locations did affect the display. Regardless the Display eventually went out completely. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with 700, 800 MHZ iBooks with CD-Rom or Combo drive?

In light of the situation I was motivated to purchase an AppleCare protection plan...
