OK, is my thinking correct here?

I have a G4 tower (AGP) that has an ATI Rage 128s video card w/ 16MB VRAM that does a satisfactory job of running my MAG 19" CRT monitor.

What I'm wondering is: If I buy myself an iBook with its ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 w/ 32MB VRAM, do I follow the general principle of halving the VRAM to 16MB when I use the external monitor? Will performance of the card be comparable to the performance of my tower's card?

I know 16MB is sufficient to enable Quartz Extreme, but how much of performance/quality hit will I take?

well since you will be mirroring the display (ibooks don't do extended desktop with out an openfirmware hack) video RAM shouldn't matter since it is just porting out to a secondary video device..when I hooked my 700 16VRAM to my sony E540 i didn't notice any real difference in performance
