Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows if i can upgrade my graphics card to say a mobility radeon 9600 or any better Nvidia, anything better than the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, i know that the 12 powerbook is a compact machine and it would be hard to fit anything in there, but i just bought rainbow six 3 and the preformance is pretty bad.

Well, if you know how to desolder large BGA chips, rewire the supporting circuitry, and program a new driver, then yes, you can upgrade your graphics!



Seriously, many people on these boards still do not understand that Apple laptops have graphics *chips* in them, not graphics *cards*. The chip is soldered to the main logic board (MLB) and cannot be removed or switched without replacing the MLB. I do not believe any Apple laptop ever allowed upgrading the GPU. There is no space in these machines to have such an upgrade option. I thought I heard that some PC laptops may have this, but think about how big and heavy those machines are compared to ours.

I love my powerbook to death, but I agree. My new 12 inch Aluminum simply doesn't have much video power. Sigh....

Alienware's new laptop DOES have a removable/replacable videocard... but of course, the thing weighs as much as a house, and is roughly the same size. Oh well... the price of upgradability.
