I'm a student and am eligible for the student dev. discount. But is it worth it?

I beleive the high end 17" is 2399 after discount. But lets not forget tax and the $100 for the discount.

2399 + 198 (tax in CA) + 100 (enrollment) = $2700.

but am I better shopping around at other retaile's such as amazon or other places that dont charge tax and maybe offer a rebate?

any info is appreciated. thanks.

You can't get student dev pricing any other way than direct from Apple. You'll have to pay sales tax.

The 17" Powerbook is $2,699+tax with the student discount.

It's $2,399+tax with the student developer discount. Figure in the $100 cost of membership and you're still saving $200 over the student discount.

Sounds worth it to me, unless you'd rather just give me the $200.
