I have a new job and will be spending about 70% of my time working on my laptop, whereas up until now I've spent 100% of my time with my Ti connected to an Apple 20" ACD. Trying to decide if the display would be a good enough excuse to upgrade the PowerBook right now.

So... I'm wondering how much better (or worse) the new displays are? I almost forgot how dingy the whites are on my TiBook compared to the ACD.

I'm particularly curious about:

- Whites: Improved at all?
- Viewing Angle: About the same or better?
- Brightness: About the same or better?

Moving from a desktop LCD to the laptop is just a huge disappointment every time. Like you said, the brightness is the main thing, and I don't think that will be significantly better on the Al.

(or rather -- even if it comparing the Al side-by-side with the Ti, the Al looks better, it will still look horrible compared to your ACD.)

Just put away the ACD for awhile and eventually your eyes will forget about it... I found my powerbook displays wonderful for years, until I got a desktop LCD...

Well mine is a 500Mhz from March 01 so the backlit is probably faded a bit but here are a few compares.

Thanks, that was helpful. The Al looks to have richer colors, the blue is deep blue not washed out blue. Granted your Ti display is aging, but I doubt it has degraded that badly.

What a sweet machine ...

While LCD's brightness does degrade with age, a simple recalibrtation can do wonders to bring back some of the vibrancy, especially the "whites." Panther's screen calibration works really well, and I suggest using the expert options.
