Noticing a small trend that Apple pulls models from the refurb store right before releasing a new item and maintain that void till they're shipping.

Last summer with the new powerbooks, the rev a 12" and 17" disappeared for over a month.

Currently all the iPods are gone and have been since Jan 1stish.
They removed the 2x2 (and added the 2 x 1.8)
AND the 1.33 Ghz 17" and the 15" ers.

So if the trend follows we're due a speed bump on G5 but what about the powerbooks? Even if the refurbs for a model "dry up" they leave the info there without the check box to add it cause they'll be more in short. The 17" would be the choice to be the first to slap a G5 into.

I think they limit choices before new product releases so folks will buy the latest and greatest due to availability. Just a small part of the sales strategy but a resonable one none the less.
If a group of mimes are miming a forest and one falls down, does he make a sound?

Given that refurbs are worth considerably less when a new model is announced, I'd say you're seeing things that simply aren't there. Refurb availability has nothing to do with new models. What you should be looking at are things such as rebate promotions, models being EOL'd, and sales channels beginning to dry up.

I have heard that you see a lot refurbs just after the big Macworld shows. But, I never looked to see if this was true.

Ok, along with meaningless macosrumors.com post about G4 speed bumps, we now have the current models of 15 & 17in PB's MIA from the refurbs listings, after being there for weeks and weeks...what does it all mean? x-files conspiracy? Hmmm

Nothing else to do while no updated G5 desktops or PB are 'imminent' ; as weekly rumors go.

Rumors are fun to read, but don't take any of them seriously, since if you do, you will only most likely be disapointed.

But it is so much fun trying to make up new ones, let alone remembering the ones that are out there!!
