I have a 1Ghz, Tibook G4, that is a bit over a year old. I do have Applecare on it.

I opened the a little bit ago, and when it was almost opened, heard a bit of a "crack." It didnt sound good, and so I moved the screen a bit, and the right side seemed a bit loose. I then closed the book. Well, the right side hinge had broken (inside), and the stress on the left side hinge must have been too much, and it snapped too!!! Now I have a TiBook with a floppy screen. Is this a known problem??? I have this feeling I am going to call up AppleCare and have them claim it was somehow my fault (like they claimed with a 3400, when the logic board went bad a few years ago.

I have heard of problems with the hinges on the TiBook- does this sound similar to what the problems typically are (The actual part of the hinge inside of the screen, snapping??)

Happened to me, too. It's amazing how nice they are when they discover you have AppleCare!

When my hinges cracked (only on one side), it bent the casing of the LCD. They actually replaced the *entire* LCD - not sure if it was a refurb LCD or not, but pretty cool to get a new LCD after a year of use!
