Does the G4 IBook support OS9? I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything that said one way or another.

Thanks!

It will not boot into OS 9 but like any other OSX machine it can run classic. That being said, not all native 7/8/9 programs run flawlessly in classic mode.

Thanks for the scoop thats what I was wondering. The last G3 based IBook was able to boot OS9 though correct? Or did they start preventing it even earlier than the G4?

I need a new machine for work but we still run alot of OS9 stuff I'll have to test. So I really would prefer to boot into OS9 and not have to worry that running in classic mode in OSX was causing me problems.

Thanks!

All pre-G4 iBooks will boot into OS9. Apple still has good deals going for them.

The last Macs to support booting to Mac OS 9 were the QuickSilvers, I believe. Anything beyond that is exclusively Mac OS X-only.

OS 9 booting was supported long after the QuickSilvers. The current MDDs still boot OS 9.

As discotronic has said, you can find the previous generation G3 iBooks (will boot OS 9) in the Special Deals section of the Apple Store. Other places you can check for special prices are smalldog.com and expercom.com, and even places like dealmac.com
