I have my 12"pb set so that it changes the wallpaper every minute, does that by any chance have any bearing on whether or not it can decay my screen longevity? I'm thinking it won't do that except for maybe drain my battery quicker?

No, it'll be fine. Think of how often your screen changes when you're doing anything else.

Having the screen on for a long time will be the main determining factor in how long your screen lasts. How much it changes has nothing to do with it. If you're not using it, turn off the backlight, sleep the display, or put the whole machine to sleep. That will extend the life of your backlight and your screen, but that's about all you can do.

How long is the "normal" life expectancy?
My PB17 is running 2-3 hours every day during the week and 10-14 hours on the weekends.
What happens when a display gets older? Do the colors fade or .....?

Well for one, there is a flourescent bulb (or two or more) that is the backlight. When one of those goes out, your screen gets dim.

Well thats good to hear and what i kinda expected. well since i use my 12"pb as my desktop replacement, hopefully the screen will last me a while even though i tend to use the laptop for a lot of hours a day. But i do put the monitor to sleep if its idle, etc.

I don't think it hurts to have a picture constantly change. After all, it would mitigate the risk of "burning in" the screen which happens to both CRTs and LCDs when you have a window placed on a screen for a very long time.
Granted, it's gotta be there for a real long time to make such an impression and perhaps it's good for the pixels to be be changing such that they don't get stuck.
I bought a refurbished LCD monitor for my dad's computer and I saw a slight burn-in on the upper right-hand corner where you could see the red "X" close window symbol in XP.
