Hi,

Here is what happened. 8 months ago I purchased a G4 PowerMac with 23" display. Loved it ever since. At that time I fully charged my G3 PB battery and packaged it back in the box that it came in when I purchased it. A few weeks ago I take the Pismo out of the box and it won't boot. The green lights on the side won't even light. The cable with the round disc does not even get warm. The computer worked fine until I boxed it. What happened and what should I do? I have someone who wants to buy my Pismo now and I can't get the thing to boot.

The Pismo has the original OS 9.0.4 with 6 GB HD.

Any ideas on what I can do would be helpful. I have tried the obvious things. I guess I will have to pay to have someone check it out and see what the problem is and fix it so I can sell it.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Veblen.

My guess from your statement is that your power adapter went bad. I've gone through about 3 of them since I bought the Pismo. Seems to be the weakest link in the computer. If its cold (plugged into a socket that works) this seems to be the problem. Take it to the apple store and have then try a new plug - eliminated this possibility first.

Lithium-Ion batteries don't retain their charge well over time - it's no surprise that the Pismo can't boot from it. As for the power adapter, the original kind had a tendency to break at the junction between the thin cable and the plug into the computer. These tended to flex a lot and the wires would separate, making a nice little spark gap. Mine made an acrid plastic burning smell.

This doesn't seem tob be your problem, but try replacing that cabe anyway. If you take the thing into an an Apple Store, and the Genius is agreeable, you can get it fogired out whether it's the power adapter or something inside the computer (which is doubtful if you didn't bump it severely).

Maybe the PRAM battery? That's sure to be bad if you've never replaced it.
