Has anyone tried to replace the cells in a Pismo M7318 battery?

Mine is long dead, and I was searching for a replacement and came upon an old auction that was a 'kit' for the cell replacement (sounds like that guy didn't know what he was getting into). There are lots of those cells on ebay right now and it's very tempting to try for a "backup" battery.

I've googled and searched MacNN, but wasn't able to find anything in regards to the process.

yes ive seen these too. Have you ordered them? any reactions? From what I understand they take some soldering.

Ah, Pismo. How I miss thee.

Assuming you learn how to solder and can open and close the battery pack's housing without f*cking it up, I say go for it. It shouldn't be too bad. Especially if it means making your Pismo portable again.

As I'm reading some usenet posts on the topic, I'm starting to feel that it's not such a great idea. It would cost $40 just for the cells to attempt it, and I like not being burned with acid.

You could be asking for trouble and cause a burst battery or fire like in the old 5300 days!. (counterfeit Nokia batteries have known to explode!)
