This past Tuesday, our young company was invited to an entrepreneurial workshop to showcase our company. Anyway, getting to the point a few of the billboards that we completed were not ready in time for the showcase. Everyone began to panic, and then it dawned on me. Take all of the billboard files and load them into iPhoto create a slideshow, threw some Bach up under there for some music and export it to QuickTime. Keep in mind all of this was done on the way to the workshop in the back of a Ford Escort, also I am 6’5 so space was limited.
Needless to say, our presentation went well, we all know that a PowerBooks is an attention grabber. But when our little QuickTime movie started to play the oohs and ahhhs were amazing. People were stunned; we pick up a few clients on right there at the workshop as well as a few more through e-mail since Tuesday.
After that I begin to wonder, how do some of you use PowerBooks and what for? Especially if you are using your PowerBook on the go. Please share some of your stories.

Now thats a reason for choosing a PB over a G5. I on occasion will go to school and realize a paper is due in the next hour. All I do is sit myself near my classroom and type my ass off, then go and walk by my Library where they have an AirPort hooked up to all their computers and printers. Connect via my AirPort and print out my document. Also doesnt hurt to have all the admin passwords at my school by working there as a freshman and gaining the trust of my superiors so that they would give me pretty much all the passwords I'd need to connect virtually everywhere at school.

I use my powerbook at client locations to setup routers, test their network, write up a bill for them when the job is done. I just plug in and go about my business. It's great being able to switch locations easily.
Great Story BTW. I bet that made you look like a hearo for your company.

I just finished a job as production stage manager for a new play which was touring around for a few months. Being on the road, of course a laptop is a necessity, but it came in handy in many more ways than just the obvious parts of my job. It was used to run the multimedia elements of the show: images and videos projected at the rear of the stage. We used Keynote, which was limited in features, but very easy to use and 100% reliable in performance. The show was always being developed, and it was easy to change the video stuff five minutes before the show, or on the plane to the next city. The sound cues were on three CDs, each of which was an iTunes playlist so if cues were added, deleted or moved, I could hand a new disc(s) to the sound guy/gal in just a few minutes. Simple editing was done with Quicktime Pro, and tracks combined in iMovie. (I didn't have any designers or sound/video crew on the road, so I had to be largely self-sufficient if the director wanted changes).
Portability also came in handy in other ways. On a train to Philadelphia, I was able to go online through my cell phone to check the schedule for our connecting train. When we got lost in Houston, I had instant access to the e-mail which contained directions. And finally, when we were stuck in an airport in Seattle for five hours, I paid $7 for Wi-fi access, largely so that I could entertain the cast with an internet-full of "yo momma" jokes (don't ask). I was also able to provide services to the less technologically-supplied folks on tour. If someone was having their agent e-mail them a script, I could be downloading and printing it in the middle of rehearsal and hand it to them on the next break (for a nominal fee, or a martini after the show ).
Not all of these uses may be strictly "necessary," but it's amazing how many problems, big and small, can be solved by having a full-featured computer and a few cables and accessories in your bag at all times.

im in the same situation as EdipisReks and iREZ. use my powerbook for college. typing out papers, and taking notes, hooking up to an airport network for surfing.
few of my college friends use it to check their email at college.
i got a double class in the library next week since my professor is going to be up country, good thing they have a wireless network in there.

KP, Apples needs to post your story in there creative pro section. It is good see people getting the full use out of these excellent machines. The more you used your Apple computer the better it runs. It craves to be used.
