my ibook battery just died, well a few months ago it did. lasts about 10 minutes. i've tried all the usual thing to 'revive' it.

i have 7 months of apple care left, i.e. the computer is over 2 years old.

apple told me that the battery warranty is only 6 months. nothing they could do for me.

is this true, seriously?

This is news to me. Just 9 months ago I was able to get a replacement battery for a 2 year old iBook.

This is not a good change in policy, especially considering the flak they've taken for iPod batteries.

It's getting harder and harder to justify paying $250 for applecare anymore. My last iBook was able to get 2 battery replacements done on it. Now I have to wonder if there's any point buying it for my new one. They wont even give you the rubber feet on the bottom of the machine without billing you.

I think AppleCare will replace a defective battery, but a battery that has ran its course and now is useless isn't covered by AppleCare if I'm not mistaken. You might wanna call them again and tell them that its defective and is not working, if you still have warranty they should replace it. I dont think the 6 month battery replacement is policy, but if it is then that just plain sucks.

The Applecare Terms and Conditions document does mention that items subject to wear and tear such as cases, key caps and batteries are not covered -- but since I don't know what the lifespan of a battery is you might be able to get it replaced, depending on who you talk to.

the policy on batteries is it will be replaced if it doesn't hold a charge in the first 6 months with no issue....if you are 6-12 months it might be replaced depending on what is happening with it...after 12 months all bets are off because it is after all a rechargable battery and they don't last forever....as far as batteries being replaced in the past...yes it was done even though AppleCare does exclude consumable items like batteries..they just started cracking down on it since they ARE a consumable
