Recently installed VPC 6 with Win2k on my iBook 700 combo.
It's been really slow "installing" (or updating) those Windows Update stuff.
I only have a total of 256MB of RAM (128+128). How much difference would I see if I added a 512MB stick instead?
In simple and sweet words: Would I see a significant increase in speed or something?
Thanks y'all. 8)

Yes you will. I ran VPC 3.0 or 2.0 back when I first got my beige G3. The speed was bad... once I stuck in a little more ram it got better. Well, maybe up to 75mhz pentium speeds... I haven't had a chance to play with a newer copy yet. One of these days when I get a new mac, I will install it for the fun of it and see what it does.
Always buy more ram!!!

You will definately see a performance increase.
When I ran VP6 on my 700 I had 640MB RAM. I gave VPC the max memory (about 460MB if I remember correctly). It ran ok but I didn't bother to have another program running at the same time. 2000 still ran like crap. I downgraded to 98 and was much happier with the speed. It was the only one that I could put up with. I tried XP but uninstalled it almost instantly. That was just a waste of time. It was almost the same as the performance on my 1.25GHz iMac.

i tried vpc cause i wanted ventrilo on my mac (i know, a version is on the way).my mistake was to install xp, extremely slow! i also had vpc set to use 128mb ram, so that may have been the major problem.... i will try to install 98 today and give it more memory.

I have VPC XP on OSX.3 (iBook G4 800Mhz).... I have 640MB Ram installed and devote 256 of that to VPC. It is still very slow. Win 98 is better, starts faster and is more responsive.

Yeah folks. I did the upgrade a couple of days ago. Win2k is kinda slow, but bearable.
Cheers to those who contributed to this thread.

with 256 MB RAM Mac OS X is really slow once you start more than one application. VPC makes sense only for win 98 and low profile apps.
