Hey all,

I finally broke down and purchased a 15" PowerBook (1 GHz) model from the local Apple store. I was surprised to see that the combo drive on my 15" is a Matshita CW-8123. This is different from the drive used on my girlfriend's 12" PowerBook - hers is a CW-8122. The difference is the RW speed is 24x compared to 10x. I was actually anticipating getting the same drive, but it was a pleasant surprise to see the faster one, as I use many high speed RW discs.

I searched this forum and didn't find any mention of this particular drive. It is listed on Panasonic's site, but is this something new that Apple has included with the latest systems without updating the specs of the machine?

Also I pressed command + V on boot and watched the system load. I noticed that it mentioned something about ATI 9700, although I could find no other references to that card in the rest of the system after boot. Anyone care to explain that to me? Also is there anyway to save or view the boot log after logging in? I know on FreeBSD you can view /var/run/dmesg.boot, but is there a similar file for OS X?

Thanks.

The ATI 9700 you saw is just the driver for your internal GPU. No, it's not a mobile 9700, but the 9600 that is in there uses the same driver as the 9700, hence the name.
