Ok ,
I need some help on deciding which Mac to get !
The decision is between an iMac 1GhZ g4 ,256 mb Ram,
80 gig HD,15” LcD—Refurbished- for 1100 OR
ibook 12” 800 MHz, 256 Mb, 60 gig Hd, for $1064
I am in High Skool and I would Like the portability of the ibook
But it is not necessary , I am also kind of scared of the 12” ibook ,
Is the screen to small ? I will not do any hardcore video editing ,
Or picture editing , But I do have A LOT of music and I like to download, Brows the web, Etc.
This will also be my first Mac so Please help me!!

If you are not doing any serious editing like you said, I think the ibook would be just fine. I use my 12 inch ibook for email, web browsing and typing. For these activities I find the screen quite sufficient.

well, i was afraid that 12" would be to small too, but it's really nice to work with it. crystal clear picture. If you have good eyes 12" shouldn't be a problem.
Maby you should try a 12" screen before you buy. And if you can afford, buy more ram, 256 will do. but more will definetly speed up os x.

Go for the iBook, and get more memory. Don't worry for the screen, it's really great. In my opinion the 15" iMac is not that good for a desktop computer. I mean it's really the low-end, and the screen resolution is the same as the 12" iBook. A bit too low for a desktop computer I think. And one more thing... once you'll try a laptop, you won't want to go back to a desktop computer. It's nice to take the iBook with you when you want.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, but I was deciding between the 800 MHz iMac and that exact iBook. I'm still not sure what to do, I've owned a good deal of laptops lately, and I kind of miss the desktop "feel." With the laptop, I love the portability, but I get so sick of going under my desk to move the AC adapter to the sitting area so I can type without battery loss. Maybe this is just me, and I could be totally wrong, but do you ever get that feeling that a laptop just isn't "permanent" feeling? Like it's not a real computer? Maybe it's just me. I'll probably stick with it because I have to, but just wanted to let you know that I'm in almost the EXACT same boat. Hope you find something good.

If you really have a lot of music, consider the iMac for the drive size. The extra 20GB might come in handy. Otherwise, it's down to whether you need portability.

i second the recommendation for the larger HD in the iMac. You're doing music, you'd be surprised how fast that will fill up.
Out of curiosity, where'd you find that price on the 800 mhz iBook with a 60 GB HD? It is for a G4 ibook?? Because that's $1099 with $75 extra for the larger HD. (High skoolers don't get educational discounts, sadly enough--no justice there.)

Are you sure? When I go through the K-12 section of the online store I find this:
Who is Eligible To Purchase
The following education individuals are eligible to purchase through the Apple Store for Education individuals:
Employee of public or private K-12 institutions in the United States
School Board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members
PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers
Qualified homeschools
Employee of a public or private, profit or non-profit preschool
...it doesn't say anything about the students, just the faculty and associate members. If I missed something I would like to know as this has come up before.
Thanks!

Unless you have a CRAZY amount of music, the 60HD should be plenty, the screen will be fine, and the portability/size factor can't be underestimated.

Not everyone uses their computer for just the music...
