I just wonder the new G5 isn't support for the bootable classic OS9. And I understand all the new PowerBook G4 come with new Pahther 10.3 with Classic mode only (None-Bootable OS9).

My 1st Question here is: If I purchase a latest G4 PowerBook 1GHz, Can I create 2 partions for the HD and one side install the Panther, another still can install a bootable OS9?

My 2nd question is: Is the OSX Panther 10.3 not support for bootable OS9? or Is all the new hardware (which is all new PowerBook) not support for the OS9?

I really appreciate if anyone out there can answer my quenstions.

Thanks a lot!

Answer to your first question: No, None of the NEW Macs will boot up into OS 9.

Answer to Question 2: The new hardware doesn't support booting into OS 9.

Why would you want to boot into 9 anyway? Is there an absolute need to boot into 9 that Classic won't handle?

Thanks for your reply typoon!

The reason I want to install Bootable OS9 is because I need to use the Pagemaker 6.5 to do the korean. Can the Flat Panel iMac install OS9?

Sorry typoon, but you are wrong.

You can still buy the PowerMac G4 that supports OS 9 booting.

The last PowerBook to support OS 9 booting is the Titanium 1 GHz.

No, I'm not wrong. He asked about the Current line of Powerbook G4's. The Current line AlBooks cannot Boot into OS 9.

That is absolutely correct.

However, you also said that "None of the NEW Macs will boot up into OS 9."

You can still buy PowerMac G4s new that will boot into OS 9.

Just nitpicking...carry on.

To nit pick somemore. The G4 that allows OS 9 to boot up is not NEW. It was out even before the G5 came out so technically it's not really new. In a way we are both right.

In any case, it's not that there's something special about the 9.2.2 that comes with a new Mac -- that same system folder would boot an older Mac.

And to get even more nit-picky, the current G4 Power Macs really aren't new. They are using the exact same motherboards as the first Summer-2002 line of MDDs, which is why they will boot 9. Old hardware.

OS10.3 classic to my dismay will not run all software that runs on OS9. I just bought a Nord Electro (musical) keyboard that can download sounds thru OS9 or Windows. This is a no go on my Ghz 17" in classic mode. Even with VPC it will not work. I have to go to my neighbor's house and use his PC laptop to download sounds into my keyboard. There is a difference.

Have you tried running PageMaker 6.5 in Classic? Most software that doesn't talk to hardware (video, serial ports, etc.) works in Classic.

Most.
