Greetings all,

This morning my DVD/CD-R drive in my PowerBook decided that it was no longer going to accept discs, instead of grabbing them when they are two thirds of the way in I have to push.

They go almost all the way in, but not quite, and after the drive sparks to life - attempting to read the disc - the CD is spat out.

Everything else is normal.

My question is twofold, has anyone else had this problem (my machine is only 18months old), if so is it a terminal problem for the drive? Secondly if it is terminal, can I upgrade the drive to a CD/DVD writer?

I have just become a father and therefore already have several hours of digital video that I'd like to edit down into viewable chunks (from the lenghty, somewhat less-than-exciting marathons they are at the mo ;-)

Any thoughts would be welcome

Cheers

I had a wierd problem with my superdrive over christmas. In the end, I unplugged the machine, pulled the battery, and let everything power down.

Upon restarting, the drive was reset and everything's fine.

I'm sure there are fancier and more specific ways to do a 'factory' reset, but this was quick and easy.

Hmm, I powered down and left everything off for 36 hours or so and also removed the battery. No joy though - seems my CD drive is fried.

Anyone else got any thoughts before I commit to a repair (or if it's relatively simple to do myself?)

Cheers

Actually I just solved my problem : preventing the CD from ejecting the first time it's spat out seemed to put things back in place.
Thanks anyway
