I cant mount an external HD firewire 120 gigs, it just stopped mounting, nothing works.
Disk utilities cant run, I get this:
Error starting Disk Utility backround process

Disk utility started, but a backround process needed in Disk Utility didnt start properly. Please quit and restart Disk Utility.

What can I do ?
Please help me to make it mount and make disk utility to work.

not to say that everything is a mess and is working really bad.

Thx in advice.

I had the same problem a few months ago - I bought my drive from firewiredirect.com - this is what their tech support suggested and it worked! Under OS X the drive would not boot so they had me boot into OS 9 - sure enogh the disk was there - I then ran nortons and diskwarrior on it (either one would have probably been fine but I was just being careful) - then I rebooted into OS X and the disk was fine. Try this out - good luck and remember that there are always disk surgeons out there who will retrieve your data - expensive service though.

Needless to say, after my experience I am paranoid as hell and religiously back up everything to external drives, CDs AND DVDs - can't have too many backups as far as I'm concerned.

Good luck, I hope this trick helps.

You could also use Data Rescue X by Prosoft to get your data back. Boot from the Diskwarrior CD and try it again

Actually what I need is to make it mount, as my powerbook doesnt have 200 gigs to get that 110 gigs and keep my actual data I need to make it mount, any ideas why the PB is not mounting it, its working really rare these days, really really ban in all aspects, I dont know if its a bug or something, but I cant even reinstall asthe HD doesnt mount and disk copy just dont run.

Thanks

1. Repair permissions on Disk Utility itself - occasionally, the application itself will have messed up permissions, keeping it from running. Search for Disk Utility Permissions fix or something like that on versiontracker or macupdate. There was a tool that did this.

2. Try Diskwarrior.
