Hi all, just wanted to say thankyou for all the info I have been picking up from this forum over the last few weeks, it's what pushed me over the edge to take the Mac plunge.
I had originally purchased a windows based Athlon 64 laptop. The laptop was very fast and would run any game I threw at it as well as my desktop, but in the short 2 weeks I had it, I realized this was not what I wanted in a laptop. I already have a great desktop pc for entertainment purposes.
The thing was specced to weigh 7.6 lbs,but it felt more like 10 lbs or more.Plus the thing was just plain ugly, looked like a big black plastic brick.
Well Saturday night, after a few lagers to build up my courage I ordered the 15" powerbook. From all the info I have got off the forum, seems like it will be a perfect fit for my needs. I will be using it for schoolwork, music and to run Final Scratch when i'm deejaying. The thing just looks so damn sexy, cant wait for tuesday to roll round.

Congratulations! I'm an extremely proud owner of a 15" Powerbook. I hope that it's everything you need it to be. (I haven't found anything that it can't do yet.)

Why? What's wrong with such a powerful laptop?

Now this is confusing. It was 7.6 lbs or not (no matter how did it feel)?
Plus the thing was just plain ugly, looked like a big black plastic brick.
It is true that Powerbooks are the best looking notebooks around. But performance wise, in comparison to the AMD you had previously, they are pretty anemic.
Of course having MacOS X instead of Windows is a reason to switch . By the way, welcome to MacWorld!

Yeah sorry the above post was a little confusing, but it was hard to fit all the info in, under 1000 chars. Also had never posted before so the message layout was horrible, hope this one is better.
As far as the weight thing goes, I wasnt sure if that quoted 7.6 lbs was including battery, and I never did officially weigh the thing.
I had never previously had a laptop, so when I bought the Mobile Athlon 64 based one, I just went with the idea that I wanted the quickest thing I could get. After having used it for a week or so though, I realized that I would prefer something that was lighter, and would have a longer run time.
Plus as I mentioned before, powerbooks look so damn sexy, should look great up there with my turntables when I'm deejaying a show.
Depending how I get along with Mac OSX, I will probably be tempted to splash down for a dual g5 desktop after some more saving.Cant wait to try it out.

Surprisingly, not at all. Of course I don't know exactly what model our friend had, but the VoodooPC systems offer more than 3 hours on battery while using real world applications like MS Office and the internet. At least as good as a Powerbook 15", if not better.
What I see as a downside, is the weight. 8 lbs... . Oh, wait, WIndows XP too ...
