Here is a link to my pictures (on my .MAC homepage) of my new 15" G4 1.25GHZ Superdrive Powerbook. It is a refurb unit, and I took pictures of the unpackaging process.

http://homepage.mac.com/rsgunther/PhotoAlbum3.html

However, I have some BAD news. There are 2 problems with the unit. The right shift key doesn't work all the time. It works only occasionally. Also, the bottom part of the aluminum case is slighly misaligned. This is directly by the Superdrive slot. It looks like the case isn't "snapped" together properly. I called Applecare and they are sending out a box - I will send it back to get these 2 issues repaired.

I will keep everyone posted how long the repairs take. Overall, I am impressed with the refurb, excellent packaging and etc. I just got a bum unit, but this can happen when buying a refurb. If you want perfection, spend the extra $500.00 for a brand new unit. Or buy a refurb and get the issues repaired.

congrats on the purchase. When you get the unit back from Apple, you'll have a pretty spiffy machine at a lower price! Was the 12' yours too?

I wouldn't sweat it, you can get a bum machine with ANY product coming out of a factory.

Hope it all works great when it returns!

ablao - You are very observant. I didn't even notice that. It is a box lid from a tiBook box. That is really strange, and I didn't even take notice, I was more excited to open the box & get to the goodies.

I was laughing when I saw that they put the old Ti insert for your new Al unit. I thought you were going to say that they sent you a 1.25ghz Ti... LOL

Well, I got it back & got a few suprises.

1) They replaced the hard drive due to a ticking noise. But they replaced it with a Hitachi 5400 RPM drive. AWESOME!

2) Apple is sending me a free battery for the powerbook since I had so many problems so early in the game.

Overall, they have excellent customer service and I would go through this process again! A refurb saved me $500 and I get a free battery to boot.

Oh, and I went ahead & ordered Applecare. I bought it for $261.00 from online micro. It should arrive in a few days. I will have a little piece of mind having this for the future.

I got a few suprises with my referb 15" superdrive that just arrived this mourning. It came with a 5400rpm Hitachi and 1 stick of 512mb instead of 2x256mb.

I guess that makes up for the 2 stuck pixels...

It is unbelievable what deals people can find in the US. In Europe, AppleCare for the Powerbook costs 369€ = 453.87$, without VAT. With 21% VAT included, this goes up to 446.49€ = 549.18$ .
