I sent my 667DVI in for case repair (paint) friday. I'm hoping to get it back before the end of the week.

Anyways, I am wondering if it was unwise on my part to send my PBG4 in when there was about a year left on my Applecare to get it fixed. I want to know how well your guys' repaired TiBooks are holding up.

I don't want the paint peel to ever happen again.

I kinda wished that I could have them fix the case too. It's flexy above the DVD/CDRW drive. I thought that only mine did this.

Meh, hindsight's 20/20, and being without a computer sucks.

Mine came back looking like new - the bezel had to be replaced. That was a year ago and it has held up great. There are no signs of the paint failing at all. So, it appears that it benefitted from Apple's significant improvements in the cosmetics. I think you will be pleased.

My Powerbook's paint didn't start peeling off until about 1.5 years into owning it.

i have a rev. a tibook, and 3 year applecare (expires in two weeks)
i'm just curious, what kind of damage has to be done to the powerbook before you can send it in to be fixed? some of my paint is peeling and there are a few scratches and dings, but what kind of terms are there for sending a tibook in for repairing of the case? i'm just wondering if i should try to get my case repaired and looking like new while i still can, and if it's worth it. also, how long would it take to get finished? (i have no experience with applecare, the imac i owned before this never had serious problems, we didn't have applecare, and when something went wrong it went to my local dealer around the corner... but now i'm in vancouver, so i'd have to send it right to apple, which i think is what you do for applecare anyways..
anyhoo, any suggestions are appreciated.

i have one of the original TiBook 400s. i'm not sure if i was lucky or what, but it seems like i'm the only one who has had absolutely zero problems with peeling paint (and we're going on three years of not so delicate usage).

thing is... i'm pretty sure that the bezel on mine is plastic and not painted titanium. does anyone know if that was the case for the earlier models?

ya, sorry about that, but looking back on my post, it makes it sound like there is more damage to my computer than there really is. there's a few tiny flakes of paint gone from the hinge area, and some of the bezel area (i believe you're talking about the outline of the main keyboard area? mine's black plastic it seems, painted a shiny grey that is lighter than the titanium) paint is starting to be rubbed away at the lower right corner and a tiny bit in the middle. overall the damage really is minimal, so that's why i'm wondering about whether it would be covered under applecare...

My Ti PB 1GHz is pretty much perfect. Couple of scratches on the bottom of the book - but that is it. To be fair, I have babied it. Keep it in a WF sleeve + put a thin piece of leather between the keybd and screen whenever traveling in the sleeve. Debating getting Apple care at this stage...~$275 for 2 years worth? Not sure I will keep it that long...i.e. will trade up to a G5
