Here is the deal.
I woke up this moring got my laptop to my uni work from 9 till 12. I came back home and when I connect my iBook to the ac cord the brightness of the display goes off. I tried to do several times of restart again and again but the same thing.....
Anyone got a clue what can I do about it?

Thanks a lot.

Well, I'd love to help but it sounds like your iBook is broken. Have you tried phoning Apple so they can help you troubleshoot it?

The only other thing I can think of is to have a poke around in the Energy Saver PrefPane. Maybe there's a dodgy setting in there somewhere.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Please don't hit your head though, OK?

Go to the Energy Saver preferences panel like he said. I'm 99% sure you have the display going to sleep when the machine is on A/C power.

You said you tried to turn it on? Is this the iBook? Does it startup (does it make the appropriate startup noises?)? Have you tried adjusting the screen brightness? We need more and detailed steps of your attempts and symptoms to understand your problem better.

Uhm.. That's like solving one problem trough moving to another one.
What OS version do you run on this iBook? I had some problems with the screen going off with 10.3 in special circumstanses. Upgrading to 10.3.1 solved my issues.

guys now i can't even turn it on. i had my ibook all night plugged on the ac cord and the battery didn't charge at all.
No it doesnt do any sound. i had 10.3. the brightness was adjusted properly.

Yesterday my iBook was working properly with the battery. When I came to my house I plugged the ac cord and the display went off or the brightness adjusted automatically to zero. I tried to adjusted manually and nothing happened again. So I think it is more than just a simple problem, I think its hardware problem... Anyway I am going now to a technician to see it and I'll keep you informed of what he is going to say to me.
Thx for your consideration,
dimitris

I had the same issue arise last summer. My issue was resolved by a new battery. The battery was replaced free of charge by Apple. I was within my first year warranty.

Logic Board replacement program...check Apple's website. Your iBook may be included...if not, you still need to call Apple and plead your case. At the very least, they will be able to log in your information and hopefully they will eventually include all affected iBooks.
