Hi,

I have a 17" PB running 10.3.2 with the latest updates. Twice now I've had a problem where the PB will go to sleep (automatically) and when I try to wake it up the screen remains black. Nothing. I've had to go so far as to unplug the power adapter AND remove the battery to get it to reset. Needless to say I'm afraid of a disk crash if I have to keep doing this. I've never had a problem waking the computer if I put it to sleep explicity.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm at a loss. Right now I have the screen saver turned off and the Energy Saver set to put the computer to sleep after 1 hour just to keep the thing awake while I'm using it or walk away for a short time.

The OS is fairly stock. Don't have 3rd party add-ons other than Stuffit and Suitcase. About the only mod is the addition of more memory.

Thanks,
Todd

Bad memory very often is the cullprit to problems. Can you take the extra memory out and see if the problem is gone?

You really should try resetting the PMU whenever you are having power related problems (i.e. sleep, restart, shutdown, power up, dim screen, internal devices shutting off while the machine is running, etc...).

I would try resetting the PMU *before* bothering to pull the RAM out.

Also, if you hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds, your machine should turn off. You shouldn't have to pull the battery or unplug it. This goes for any machine since at least the original iMac.
