I have a new iBook 12" G4. I was trying to watch a DVD movie on it the other night and wanted the sound to be louder. After increasing the slider bar in the DVD player and in the sound control panel, it was still not very loud. Is there any way to increase the volume short of purchasing external speakers?

How high do you have the system volume set? Press the F4 and F5 keys (on the top row of the keyboard) to increase/decrease system volume.

You also have to remember that the audio on a DVD movie is recorded at the level the studio wants it to be at. Your movie may not be terribly loud. While you could handle that with your component stereo and huge plasma TV (ok, wishful thinking there

), your iBook doesn't have a huge amount of amplification. One solution is powered speakers. Clunky? Sure, but at least you will be able to hear your movie.

yeah that, or you could go and buy yourself some decent headphones for a couple bux.
