I believe laptop batteries are now considered hazardous waste material, which means you'll have to turn it in to a local recycling center that can handle old computer parts. There should be a few listed in your phone directory.

I've been wondering about this lately, too... I have an old TiBook battery that is really confused. It can't hold a charge for more than half an hour and it is rapidly declining. furthermore, it reads out that it has 90 minutes of charge left when full.

If you have a batteries plus near you or any other battery store, they should be able to recycle that for you.

If you want a good fireworks show, you could throw it in a fire and run.

disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything that happens due to batteries being thrown in fires!!

Your local municipality might take them at the recycling center.
