Greetings people. I am having some really weird problems with my G4 Powerbook. I have 10.2.8 on my system. Let me tell you whats going on.
For no reason at all (no programs open sometimes) the machine will lock up. Other times, the screen will draw like a mesh screen, and say "you need to restart your computer, hold down power.. blah blah blah". Then, I'll hold power, and restart the computer. Now, whats really weird is when I go to restart it it will not boot. The sleep led flashes a few times, and then the machine beeps. I press the reset and the machine then boots. I don't know whats going on. I've lost my 10.2 install disk, but I do have my 10 install disk. So, I booted from it and ran disk utility. My harddrive is partitioned into two drives. When I ran disk utility is said I have an overlapping file, but it couldn't/wouldn't repair it. If you would like to know exactly what the error says let me know. Any help with this would be awesome. Thanks!!

That really doesn't sound good! Im assuming you have backed your HD up!!
Personally i would phone apple care (if your still under warranty) or if your in the states pop along to your apple store and see what the 'geniuses' make of it, but knowing Sod's (Murphy's) law it will run fine when your there!! But what ever you do get help! may need a re-installation of jaguar. Have you thought about buying Panther?
Good luck

Yeah, I've thought about getting Panther. But little short on $$ And, no I've haven't backed up the important stuff on the harddrive. Mosting its iTunes, and iPhoto. What programs, or methods of backup would you do? I do have another computer I could use through my network. But everytime trying to copy the files to the PC, 10.2 messes up and says that some of the files could not be found...

How many beeps do you get at boot time? If it's 3 beeps, which I'm guessing it is, that's bad memory, the most likely culprit. The "restart your computer" screen, in case you did not know, is a kernel panic. Replace your memory before worrying about the messed up file. Once the memory problem is solved, run disk utility or some other utility to repair your disk.
Good luck.
