I was wondering if anybody knows about some utility to decrease DVD/CD-RW drive speed. Listening to audio CDs, the noise coming from the drive is annoying.
Thanks!

If I am not mistaken, doesn't audio spin at 1x? If the sound bugs you, just rip it into iTunes and enjoy the silence.

Thanks, but I can say it happens only if I watch DVDs. I will probably rip them anyway.

DVD playback is at 1x also unless you are scrubbing backwards or forwards. Not sure what else you can do aside from ripping your dvd's.

Sorry, I wasn't clear: the DVD playback is absolutely fine, I haven't heard so quiet DVD playback yet. The problem comes with audio CDs, it seems to me that the drive is reading those at maximum speed.
I know there is a small utility for Windows called DriveSpeed that allows to change the drive speed.

I think you've got an unbalanced audio CD (or maybe a bunch of them?) Some CDs just make a bunch of noise,

Do you have the same noise on all sorts of audio CDs or just on some of them? Are they originals or copies?
