Sold the 15" aluminum, finally. Don't need a replacement 'book yet.

Have to temper these decisions with "I really WANT one now." (Not "need".)

Next revision coming when? Nothing on the rumor sites yet... specs? Nothing.

Is iomatic going to use a complete sentence?

Much love.

As always... if you don't need it now, then wait a few months if you can. I don't think new Powerbooks will be out anytime soon though. The new slightly speedier G4's from Motorola aren't in full production yet, which Apple may use in the next revision. If they go straight to G5, I'd say it's going to be even longer just based on delays with the X-Serves and overdue updates to the tower models.

I'm squeaking by on a 500MHz Pismo with 256Mb ram until something new comes out. It's fine for now and I even do some Photoshop work with it. (heck, I used to use a 60MHz machine with 16Mb ram to do Photoshop... by that comparison, I feel like my machine is a speed demon).

I'm waiting on the next revision. My PBG4 400 is eeking through right now, and I would really like a G5, since I don't plan on upgrading for another 3 years (but ya never know ).

tough decision..I'm waiting too.

I have a 500 mhz g3 ibook ...just sent it off to get fixed (bad logic board supposedly..it still works but the fan doesn't work..hopefully it will just be the fan)...anyhow....)...

was a touch decision not to just junk it and get a 12" powerbook...

The 12" G4 1ghz powerbook is a sweet machine..my brother has one..just used it again...wow..so nice. if money is tight wait, but if you can afford it...you won't regret it.

but I'm going to try to hold off for a rev b 12" g5...which will be "hopefully" this time of year in 2005.

there you go fizzlemynizzle! p'shaw! was just getting a feeling... there's a certain time period when the rumors start pouring in; some confirmed some not. just taking a pulse.

I can afford it (made my return on the 15" rather quickly) now, but I would be so bummed if I went for it and the Rev. C 12" came out in April...I know the Radeon 9600 in that aluminum was sweet. I love the 12" form factor.

Mostly, it will be for writing, a bit of the 'ol pshop, illustrator, etc. But my needs have changed from doing all that production stuff to more brainstorming (i.e., writing) activities. The 12" is perfect.

If a Rev C 12" came out at 1.42 or 1.5 G4 in the next few months I'd buy.

what were the specs of the new motorola chips?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/35749.html

Looks like perhaps 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 speeds; with the 12" at 1.2, or perhaps with the older chip at the same speed. I don't know. Either way, I'll be one of the first. What a great form factor. Let's just hope the display is better quality, and a better video card.

What the hey, I'd rather have a reliable version #3 12" than any first release G5 PB. IMHO, the G5 PowerBooks are not going to be released until at least the WWDC in June-July.

I was in the same situation too. Been reading the rumor sites. It's always around the corner. Maybe next Tuesday. Maybe January. Maybe Feburary. Those predictions came and went. Now it's March. Been waiting months for the next update.

Finally, I just gave in and bought a 12". I'm loving it. I figure the next update won't be anything substantial. I'll just wait for the revB G5s.

totally agree on the wait-purgatory; however, i've only been waiting a few days. so a week or so more isn't going to kill me (and i have something, though not portable, for now).

I think the 3rd version will be perfect. Probably soon, if not during the supposed end-of-March updates of the G5.
