I would be perfect. The iBook is a nice small, very capable machine. What would you use it for?

Word Processing. I hate having to spend $150 for MS Word and all that other MS junk. I just do not want to have a desktop anymore.
Are there any ways to haggle with Apple on the price of their machines even though I'll be using the educational discount?

The iBook is well suited to students. If you're going to be doing anything with IT or Computer Science an iBook is more than capable. I've got a 1GHz 14", and I haven't run into anything it can't handle.
As always, it depends what YOU want to do with it. So let us know, and maybe we'll be able to give you a better idea of whether it's the right choice. (HINT: getting an iBook is always the right choice in this forum )

only real major short falls would be gaming .. since almost everythig is on pc. people will argue this but becuase its costs co's extra to produce a mac version, unless its a real pop game like warcraft or halo or medal of honor, you wont see it on mac.
other than that, i would say you can do anything. there are a few little apps here and there but nothign you cant find the equivilant for on a mac.

No chance there. The only way to get a better deal is to buy from a company that offers things such as a free memory upgrade and/or a free Airport card. I don't think you can use the edu discount with them. You might save on sales tax with another company also. Check out places like www.smalldog.com or macconnection. Check the Special Deals section on Apple's site also. Good luck.
