iBook suddenly slow to wake up?

So, for some odd reason, my iBook seems to be taking longer to wake from sleep the past couple of days. It used to wake instantaneously. Now, it takes 10-20 seconds - the internal HD will futz around a bit, and then my external FW drive will spin up, then the LCD screen will light up, then the external monitor. This is somewhat strange. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? is there anything that describes what parts of OS X deal with sleep? (This is an iBook 800 12" with 640 mb RAM, OS X 10.3.3 (also happened with 10.3.2), with an external LCD monitor with the monitor spanning hack).

thanks,

Tyler

What if you disconnect the external HD, display, etc? That may help narrow down the problem.

actually, that did help. the weirdness seems to be linked to the external display.

This may be a red herring, but it seems to have all started when I force quitted out of ghost recon, which left the monitor set at a lower resolution than it usually is. I used the system prefs to set the monitor back to 1280x1024, but seem to have lost all the old settings related to this monitor - lost my old desktop pic, lost my old colorsync calibrations (they still are on the HD, but the displays calibration panel no longer recognizes them). What makes it more weird is that when I try to launch ghost recon with the external monitor attached, the monitor complains that the "video mode is not supported". weird.

Tried zapping pram, no luck. Is there something different with the way external monitors are managed with 10.3.2 or 10.3.3? Did I fry something important? or, is there a way to completely junk all existing monitor prefs without having to reinstall the OS, and would it help?

Any insight would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Tyler
