I've set my 12" AlPB to wake up out of System Preferences Energy Saver so that an appl'n (iRecord) can subsequently run out of the calendar. I'm wondering if this will be a bad thing if the lid is down when the wakeup time occurs.

My overall problem is that I want to schedule iRecord to record a net program even if I'm not around to wake my AlPB up.

Any insights here?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure. Maybe you should just put it to sleep from the Apple menu, and leave the display open, just to be on the safe side.

All newer powerbooks are designed to operate safely with the lids closed. Try this search on Apple's support site for a few articles about operating Powerbooks with the display closed.

iBooks, on the other hand, are NOT supposed to be operated with the display closed.

Ahhh, good to know. Thanks.

Yes, they are designed for closed lid operation, but I do not believe that wake preferences can wake them up in that mode. Only an external mouse or keyboard could do it. The sleep switch that's activated when closing the lid overrides all other wake mechanisms. Besides, I just looked at my Energy Saver preferences on my 12" with 10.3.3 and I do not see a wake up option. All I see is start up, shut down, and sleep.

Well, I don't think it will wake with the screen closed if no monitor is attached. If you do have one connected, then it probably will work.

Sure the PB will operate with the screen closed if you have a display and/or keyboard hooked up. I just want to be able to run a non-interactive program when I'm not around and with the lid closed. Just seems like an arbitrary limitation that I can't.

And even if I do leave the lid up, using the energy saver prefs,I can only wake the PB up once a day. Kinda limiting.

iBeeZz at http://www.ibeezz.com looks like a promising idea. I'm a little hesitant, though, to install something fairly new that might mess with the Mac at a really deep level.

Hmmm.
