I have a 1ghz iBook G4 and I wanted to burn some DVDs. I was going to buy a bare DVD drive from NewEgg.com as well as an IDE-to-Firewire external case.

Is there any reason that you think this shouldn't work with Toast?

I don't really care about compatibility with burning with the Finder or iDVD.

(i apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum, wasn't sure)

Works fine with Toast, as long as the drive is supported.

It may also work with iDVD. See here.
