As much as I love my original 15" iMac G4/700, I'm frustrated at being tied to a desk.
The refurbished 14" iBook G4/933 is only $1099.
I realize I'll lose a bit of screen size although it's the same resolution. My big concern is speed. My understanding is that laptops are somewhat slower than desktop, primarily because of the hard drive. Do you think it'll be a wash in terms of speed or will the iBook be even quicker.
I also like the fact that I can possibly hack and have an external monitor.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 933MHz iBook G4 and screen spanning enabled with the utility available on the net does work, you can even use higher screen res. than on the iBook. However, there seems to be a 6-7% hit in speed (the user experience is the same - didn't notice this until I ran xbench and saw the results). Overall, the 933 is quite fast, even with the slower HD speed, so don't even consider that. The real issue is do you need portability or a desktop? I do not personally even consider the iMac a desktop it has so much less expandability. Hope that helps.

How much RAM do you have in the iMac? if you do get the iBook, make sure you max out the RAM. It makes a BIG difference.
