greetings iBookoids,
I've received my iBook back from Apple last week after they replaced a faulty logic board (I had all the problems, blank screen, distorted video, lines vertical and horizontal etc..) and it's all working perfectly! They even replaced my dodgy trackpad, aww.

Since the new logic board, the iBook no longer sleeps when the lid is closed, nor wakes on lifting. Small detail - but when your used to these things, it's hard to remember. I find myself closing the lid, and leaving the iBook's screen to burn away at the keys until the power dies.

Also, the airport connection is never remembered and I'm queried each time on statrtup - admittedly this might well be a Panther problem rather than a new Logic board.

Anyone else heard of this sleep issue?

As far as the sleep issue, they problem put it back together incorrectly and didn't install the switch correctly. I've done this before. Oops. Take it to your local apple repair center if its under warranty or send it back to apple if it isn't.

The Airport issue is probably software related.

Sorry that this is a bit off topic, but when you guys got your computers back from Apple had they reformatted the drive? I noticed that they sa they do when you send your stuff in for repairs, but I can't remember if they did when I sent in my girlfriends iBook for a LCD problem, and now I am coming down with the dreaded logic board problem so I'm going to have to send it in. Unfortunatley its getting so bad, to the point I can barely use it without it freezing, it it'll be hard to back up my important stuff. Should I be worried about losing it when it goes in for repairs?

I have only seen one unexplained time that Apple formatted the hard drive. They replaced the hard drive for apparently no reason. But this only happened once. In general, you shouldn't have any issues with your hard drive. However, if the data is highly valuable and irreplaceable, take it to your local Apple Authorized Service Center and tell them that so that they can do the repair themselves and check with you about backing up your data if necessary.

Of course you should be worried about losing all your data. There's no stated guarantee that your HD won't be touched. If there's a problem there as well, or the drive needs to be zeroed, guess what they'll do? Bye-bye data. They'll only do it if they have to, but if they see a reason to, it's gone. You can opt-in for a data-recovery-before deletion for $50. You only get charged if they (1) must delete the data and (2) are able to save your data.

Save all you can before you send it in. Better to be paranoid that wickedly surprised, on this one.
