The speed hit from having files on the desktop is most appropriate here in the PB forum because

1) This speed hit is due to the bottleneck at the HD

2) PB HDs are very slow, thus this problem is more likely to hit PB users

3) I've looked into this problem on desktop machines, and with a dual 1 GH G4 with considerably more total number of files (and more total space used on the desktop), the speed hit was not nearly as noticable as on my PB17.

[I would prefer this be added to the earlier thread, BTW]

Are you an idiot? You never go behind a mods back and try to open a new thread that was previously locked. If you have a problem with a Mod's decision, try the PM button to discuss it.

This has to be the most idiotic thing I have seen on a forum. Nice work genius.

Thanks for the PM advice, I have not had the need to defend my posts before. I thought it was a useful tip, and so I posted it in the forum I thought most suitable. [I still do].

The PowerBook forum is for PowerBook-specific topics only.

If it's a tip that other OS X users might benefit from, then it belonged in the OS X forum.

Either way, as I stated before, the SIZE of the file makes no difference whatsoever -- only the number of files makes a difference. So that tip is, at least as written, bogus anyway.
