Hi everyone!

Ive been in the market for a new 15" PB, but it is too expensive (in Australia anyway...). I had a look at PB prices in the US, japan, hong kong and they are all quite similar. Let me break it down:

15" PB 1.25GHz. Stock, and no discounts.
(exchange rate courtesy of www.x-rates.com)

US - US$2600
HK - US$2700
JP - US$2990

AU - US$3590

As you can see, the price in Australia is nearly US$1000 more expensive than buying in the US! Im currently thinking of buying a PB from the US but i dont have any contacts so thats out of the question... i qualify for educational discount in Australia but that still equates to US$3200 - still US$600 more than US prices.

I know im bitching but why such a price difference? US$2600 i can afford and _would_ pay, but the prices in Australia are insane!

Here's hoping Apple takes note of this post! I know other Aus macnn ppl who also feel like theyre being shafted.

Oh, thanks for letting me bitch

On topic: Yes, I am also from Australia and for many years have wondered why there is such a price difference between the computers in the US and over here.

Off Topic: I saw that movie the other night (With Honors). One of those movies on late night that you get hooked into and end up staying up and watching rather than going to bed. Saw the quote on your signature there and thought, "Hang on, I heard that the other day."

I have to agree with you as well. These prices aren't just limited to laptops, same goes for PDA's ... back when I bought my Clie over 1 year ago it cost almost half as much from the US.

Doesn't make sense with the current strength of the AUD.

Anyways .. one day I will be able to afford a powerbook *drools* javascript:smilie('')
