I am going to buy a new computer for college and I was wondering how the Stardard 15" Powerbook right now at apple.com plays Halo. Are there any issues, or does it play pretty well.
I realize Halo is the only computer game I need now-a-days. Also, has anyone heard of an estimated release date for the xbox-to-mac tunneling service program: Aquaduct 2?

I just finished playing Halo and my computer handles it pretty well. Just set down some of the settings and you should be fine, just not all the eye candy you could get but game play is fine.

Ah, to be young again: buying a computer for college, and wondering if Halo runs well.
Yes, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Photoshop, and Word will all run fine to cut your multimedia presentation thesis on how to solve world hunger and sanitation.
Yes, it'll be fine; you won't even have to tone down very much!

Yeahhhhhh.... I was wondering the same thing. I mean I'm not usually a computer game type person but I saw it being played on a G5 and it looks damn interesting. I guess I should get that 1GB ram chip soon then . Maybe tonight.
Its still surprising how many progs I can have opened at once on my baby.

Halo sucks on every mac. it also sucks on every pc. the reason is that it is a bad port with both platforms. if you want to play Halo, buy an xbox. Halo 2 should be out soon for the xbox, and it looks like it will be even better than the first one.

This guy is absolutely wrong! He must be just another XBox pusher trying to make it more successful than it really is.
HALO runs fine on a Mac and is a blast. I play it on 17"Al PB and DP 1.25GHz PM. It looks and runs smooth on a 23"Cinema Display. It runs fine on my PB. I play it a lot 'cause its fun!

Well, he's right about it being a bad port. Whatever company that did the port didn't do Bungie justice. I'm sure its still fun, but if you want to really enjoy it, I suggest the Xbox version as well. No turning down graphics or anything to worry about, just pop it in and play.
Of course, the Powerbook is a heck of a lot more useful then an Xbox for college. Just not when it comes to games.

i'm not a pusher of anything. if you truly think that halo runs "fine" on either pc or mac, then you are either delusional or unaware of what "fine" actually is.

halo runs OK on my AlBook 1.25GHz, with some settings tweaked:
in the options window that comes up at launch, i set
Rendering Pipeline: Vertex Shaders Only
FSAA: Off
Lens Flare: Low
Model Detail: High
then inside the game there is some more options, i cant remember them all right now, but i remember i run it at 800x600, and the option where its capped at 30fps, i change that to VSYNC, and i think i set the particle effects to LOW or something.
the texture quality can be kept at HIGH.
feels like it runs about 40+ FPS most of the time i think (in multiplayer, ive never run the game in single player mode)
i wish it was faster, but at least it runs OK with these settings.

So... because his opinion differs from yours he is delusional or unclear of the definition of the word fine?
Wow, ladies and gentleman, the most ignorant comment of the day!
FWIW, I have played Doom on a 17" PB(1.33GHZ) and I thought it was just fine. I played it for several hours and had no problems. It was on my friend's machine, however, so I have no idea what the settings were at.
...I enjoyed it. I guess that makes me dilusional too according to EdipisRek. Oh well, opinions are like assholes anyway.

You mean Halo right? Because Doom3 is not out yet and there is no real point in benching anything with Doom.

if the settings were at anything but full at a decent resolution or the machine was getting less than a steady 60 fps, than the experience wasn't "fine". the Halo port is terrible.

Playing CounterStrike on my Vaio (c'mon G5 PB's!) I get 12-15fps and 640x480 with everything turned off, and I still love it. It's all about how much you demand, I'd be really chuffed with 30fps on Halo...

I was going to point out that opinions vary, and just because you feel one way about something doesn't mean that is how everyone else feels... but then I realized that if we don't agree with you we are delusional, so I won't point that out.
I was also going to point out that we might define "fine" differerently, but then again, I would be disagreeing with you, which would make me delusional.
So I guess I will just admit that you are right, as it appears you feel you need to be.
There, feel better?
