hi
i am new to this forum, i recently brought my first mac, it is a used 15" 800 mhz powerbook with 1GB memory, and there are something that bothers me alot. This computer comes with OS 10.2, and everyday there are at least 2 pop up msg said that my computer must restart. i use mac in school also, tried G3, G4, G5 imac & powermac and this thing never happened. Also, when i move or shake the computer walking from place to place, it freeze easily, i never have any problem with the IBM thinkpad, the IBM even works fine after it drops on the floor when the computer is still on.

Is mac suppose to be more stable than PC? Is it just a problem with powerbook? now i only installed 5 software so i dont think the restart is due to overload. If i upgrade to 10.3 is it going to solve the problem?

It sounds like your PowerBook has a problem. You should be able to use it without rebooting for weeks. It may come from bad RAM or hardware problem. Also, look in /Library/Logs and see if you find a Panic.log file. Post the content of the file here. It may contain information about why your PowerBook is crashing. You can also try a clean install and see if it helps.

Where did you buy it, and is it still covered by Applecare?

Sounds like a kernel panic. Could be sub-spec ram. At 1 gig of ram, you should have two 512meg dimms in place. Pull one out and run with it for some time. If problems persist, swap ram and see if that makes a difference. 10.3 ups ram requirements on some machines. If you have an 800Mhz Powerbook, you need PC 133 SODIMM SDRAM. Put in PC 100 and you will get random crashes.
