Hey everyone I'm new to this forum. Ok I was a PC guy. But not anymore. I'm sick and tired of the BS that you have to put up with a PC. Apart for the all the crashing the PC does. It seems to me when they come out with new technology they never do it right the first time. I'm just SICK SICK SICK of it.

Anyway I'm a designer so I should be working with a mac anyway. Right now I want to buy a Powerbook. I just don't know if is the right time to buy right now. I trying to find out when the powerbook G4 came out. This way I can see if it's been a long enough time before the next one comes out. I don't want to buy a Powerbook G4 now and then in 4 months a new one comes out. What to you people think I should do? I really need something now but I want to save up just in case.

firstly, welcome to the forum.

12" 1ghz - september 2003
15" 1.25ghz - september 2003
17" 1.33ghz - september 2003

people have been speculating about either new powerbooks or faster versions for a while now, some rumor sites have been speculating about the end of this month and during april.

it is a tough decision, no one wants to buy one and a faster one comes out for, normally, the same price.

wow the Powerbook G4 is not that old. Has there been any new release of the G4 like they did with the PowerMac G5? Because there was a new mac G5 that came out I few months later.

Do you think a Powerbook G5 would really come out so soon?

Damn I so new to the Apple world. But I'm starting to understated it way better that the PC. I just need to get caught up on all the news.

K107,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Apple. Also welcome to the wonderful world of Macnn. First of all by far this is one of the best if not thee best Mac forums around. It is a great community filled with Mac experts, enthusiast, zealots and a few sarcastic drama lords who are going to pull your string every now and then.

Now on purchasing you a new PowerBook it has already been stated in this thread no one really knows when the G5 PowerBooks are coming out. It keeps changing, but if you can wait do so, if not the current line of PowerBooks are more than enough to get you going. Also I think everyone could be jumping the gun with the G5 dates. One thing you will learn, is to be very weary of any first generation Apple product better know as the rev a models. Considering the problems that Apple had with the Alpb 15 inch rev a, more than likely a Rev B model is going to be release with a slight speed bump and bumps to the 12 and 17 inch models as well. Who knows?

The consensus is if you need a computer now, then buy for upgrades and new models are going to come and go. As a graphic designer you do not want to sit on the sidelines to long without a computer.

Hey, welcome to the world of people who actually enjoy using their computers :-)

Are you thinking of getting a powerbook for all your designing work? Thought that is might give you more bang for the buck if you went with a desktop instead, both the iMac and the G5 Power Macs will probably get you much further. There is as always, lots of speculation when the refresh for those two product lines will be due too.

Nevertheless, if you do stick with a powerbook, its a sweet machine, and I'm sure you'll love it :-)

Welcome to MacNN. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from various members here. A lot of great folks.

I absolutely love my 17" Powerbook. My third Powerbook, and by far the best. Best Mac I have owned so far.

If you can afford it, I would upgrade any Powerbook you wind up getting with a 7200 rpm drive. And max out the Ram to at least 768 mb.

Also, get a nice case for it. Don't settle for those cheap generic cases at CompUSA or Bestbuy that the windoze people scoop up.

Check out the BOOQ bag. www.booq.com

Good luck and have fun with your new Apple!

Welcome to the forum first of all. As for new Powerbook updates... it has been going on and off on the release date for the last month or so... so, no one knows when the new updates will be out, but... from the history of Apple updating its products... it should be really soon. I'm going to guess less than a month, but don't count on it being right, it's just my personal guess.
