Hi,

I am still deciding which to keep between my 15" and 17" 1ghz.

One of the major factors is the warranty, and while the 17" has 2 yrs of applecare left, I am actually unsure of if my company will be willing to transfer the warranty of 15" to me. I'll just assume that they will not.

So i have a 15" with no warranty. It is in perfect condition with absolutely no flaws, not even the slightest scratch. No latch problems, no white spots, or uneven illumination, nothing.

My question is: If I don't have any problems now (especially with the screen), what is the likelihood of them coming up in the future.

Have any of you had a perfect machine for some time, and then one day boot up to find the screen issues? Or were they present when you took the powerbook out of the box? I am extremely careful with the powerbook, so I am thinking that if any of the screen issues come out, it won't be because I mishandled the powerbook, and that the problems just came to be on their own. Is that possible?

Thanks so much!!!!

The 15" just came out in September (I think). All Powerbooks have a 1 year warranty (90-days phone support, 1 year parts & labor). You can buy applecare extended phone support & warranty (gives you a total of 3 years). So unless there is something we don't know, you DO have a warranty on the 15".

As far as problems, I wouldn't recommend keeping it without applecare extended warranty. I bought it for my refurbished unit because I have already had to send it in for repairs 1 time.

Good luck on your decision.

Hi,

What would I need to purchase AppleCare?

Do I need the original receipt or something else? Or do they assume that this is before the 1 year warranty is up, and all I have to do is buy the applecare?

Thanks!!

Apple will know the date of purchase based on the serial number. You are still eligible for AppleCare, and besides, the machine is still under its 1 year warranty right now.

This should help you with your decision.
